Kiwanis, PCGA, Manila Dental Society, and the Provincial Gov't of Biliran sponsor Free Harelip Operation, dental outreach program for Biliranons

Naval, Biliran - Three patients from Brgy, Julita, of Biliran town, Province of Biliran with harelip deformities underwent a successful corrective surgery, entirely free of charge, at the Nodados General Hospital in Camarin, Caloocan City last January 15, under the sponsorship of the Kiwanis Philippines Luzon District, the 106th A Squadron of the PCGA, the Manila Dental Society and the provincial government of Biliran.

Patients Juan Lan, Alyssa Sedol, and Andrean Corpin, who have been suffering from cleft lip and cleft palate, now wears smiles under the Kiwanis' Juvenile Oral Rehabilitation Project dubbed "Sweet Smile for Life". The patients and their attending relatives were also given free transportation and were provided with accommodation. The provincial government provided transportation expenses for the patients, parents and relatives as well as for the coordinators of the project.

The project was chaired by CDR. Reynaldo Agcanas of the 106th A Squadron of the PCGA, and co-chaired LCDR. Gemma Evagelista. Also providing valuable support were the following: Project Director Dr. Raymund Cayabyab, Dr. Noel Mopera, Dr. Danilo Gonzales, Manila Dental Society President Dr. Mario Esquillo, a team of doctors, EENTs and cosmetic surgeons from FEU Hospital, the Kiwanis Club of Caloocan I, and Governor-Elect Jun Reyes of Kiwanis Philippines Luzon District.

Governor Rogelio Espina of this province is thankful to the group for their assistance, which contributed much to his priority thrust on improving basic health services. Earlier on November, volunteer doctors lead by Cmdr. Agcanas of the 106th "A" Squadron of the PCGA, MAREP, the Manila Dental Society, Kiwanis club of Manila West, Kamp Kasiyahan Foundation, and the Kiwanis Club of Kalookan have conducted a Free Dental Outreach Program in the above-named barangay and distributed iodized salt, toothbrushes, toothpastes, and conducted oral health lecture and environmental protection. Recently last January 24, the same group has conducted another Free Dental Outreach Program at the town proper of the same municipality in Biliran Province.
