Museum and Public Library soon to rise in Naval A joint project of the provincial government and the local government unit of Naval, the two-story building will house the museum, internet area, IT center and offices at the ground floor, while the public library will occupy the entire second floor. The new concrete building, which will be constructed within the Capitol grounds, will feature some of the details of the former Municipal Hall, such as the cladding of original wood panels for the outside walls and wooden window panels with capiz tiles. The original wooden planks from the stairs of the old building will also be reconstructed. Phase I of the construction is set to start within late February or early March to the amount of P500,000.00. Governor Espina has also set into motion the creation of the Biliran Historical Society, which would be instrumental in overseeing and maintaining the operations of the Museum. He plans to invite people who have worked hard and who maybe considered as leading figures in the efforts of establishing Biliran's history to compose the core of said society. The Governor is also encouraging private individuals or groups who are in possession of materials, whether information or artifacts with considerable significance to the island province's history, to coordinate with the project implementers so that their treasured possessions may contribute to the legacy that the Biliran Museum and Public Library will give to the Biliranons. |
